Thank you for doing your part!
Our community includes many medically sensitive children who may not have the reserves other children their age might have to fight this disease. Please take this into consideration and understand that we are not able to allow anyone displaying any COVID-19 symptoms to participate in programming.
Please use these as guidelines below when sending your child to any programming related to Step by Step, including those conducted at the centre, in a community school, or when having aides and therapist into your home.
Experiencing Symptoms of COVID-19
The core symptoms for students that require isolation for 14 days are one (or more) of the following:
§ Fever
§ Cough
§ Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
§ Loss of sense of smell or taste
§ A child or any family member in their home that has been in close contact with someone who has a confirmed case of COVID-19.
§ Your child or someone in your household has travelled outside Canada in the last 14 days
A student can return to school before 14 days ONLY if a COVID-19 test is negative, symptoms are gone AND the student is not a close contact of someone with COVID-19.
Feeling Unwell
If a child has one of the following other symptoms, they can return to programming if their symptom is improving, as long as it has been at least 24 hours after the symptom has improved.:
§ Chills (without fever, not related to being outside in cold weather)
§ Sore throat or painful swallowing;
§ Runny nose or congestion;
§ Feeling unwell or fatigue;
§ Lack of energy
§ Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea
§ Unexplained loss of appetite;
§ Muscle or joint aches;
§ Headache; or
§ Conjunctivitis (pinkeye)
Testing is not necessary if the child has only ONE of these symptoms and it improves after 24 hours. If the symptom does not improve, gets worse or another symptom develops, parents should continue to keep their child home until their symptom(s) go away. If a child has TWO or more of the other symptoms, they can return to school once their symptoms go away, as long as it has been 24 hours since their symptoms started. A COVID-19 test is recommended but not required.
Exposure at the Centre
If your child has been exposed to a diagnosed case of COVD-19 you will be contacted by Step by Step. Students will be asked to isolate at home for 14 days after the exposure. The centre will be closed for 14 days to allow for all members of the community to ensure that they are clear and free of the virus.
Learning from Home
We will be able to provide a limited amount of online programming to children in the event of a closure at the centre or a government mandated shutdown. Communication on this will come from the director and program coordinators.
